Day 8: Ed, Boo and the Manistee Forest

I started 8 miles south of Traverse City and walked 30.2 miles today still trying to catch up for the day I lost on Wednesday but it has really taken it's toll on me. The only two souls I met along the way was a man named Ed and his dog Booboo. He was selling cherries at a corner stand and gave me some for a snack. The road then led me into the Manistee National Forest where I continued walking for the rest of this lonely 11hr day - 10hrs walking and an hour's worth of breaktime. I'm exhausted.

Brother Sean

Keep the faith old man. You are doing an extraordinary thing, trust me I know a little about mileage. Focus only on the short goals and local mile markers. Keep you focus short term they add up to the bigger and larger goals easily achieved.

As for blisters, i have one word Vaseline. It is an old marathoners trick. Take vaseline smear it between your toes, and over the trouble spots. Wear a real good runners sock by Nike or NB, ones that are Left and Right foot specific and are engineered to contour your arch. Trust me, do this and never get another blister again.

PS Watch your hydration and try eating a bake or boiled potato for lunch, no skin or crap on it just salt. Easy sugar to digest quick fit to the system with no stomach distention.

Sean,
You are doing incredible!!! I know it is hard, but at least you have the personality to take it all in stride. I am sure you are leaving smiles behind you on each person you touch, from Booboo to the Hooters girls (well you probably only touched them spiritually). Keep smiling yourself.
We are all pulling for you.
